Alexander Avila is a sociologist, video essayist, writer, musician, researcher, and speaker currently based in New York City. Using a sociological lens to cover cultural stories on his YouTube channel, Alex's unique digital storytelling techniques and talent for research have amassed him an audience of over 600,000 subscribers. Alexander's social thought constructs new forms of social universalism and critical inquiry, with much of his work on contemporary identity inspired by his experience as a formerly "stealth" transgender man who began transition at age 12. His writing and research has been published in national outlets and peer-reviewed academic journals. As a speaker, Alex has delivered talks at Google, YouTube, and universities.
